Collective is a registered charity offering workspace, courses and collaboration for a growing community of Creatives in the heart of Camden. Collective is migratory and builds on a legacy of successfully acquiring and re-purposing vacant and underused spaces.
We provide free hot-desking space and subsidised offices for startups and training academies in creative and digital skills.
The Collective journey has been many things to many people from pop up shops to career development, to commissioning public realm projects. We have an evolving model but our constant is the strong and ever growing community of young people, entrepreneurs and stakeholders who give strength and support to our next exciting stages of development.
Camden Collective is self-sufficient, with income from lockable offices paying for free hotdesking and future renovations. Previously we relied on grants and raising revenue to fund our activities. The project has been supported by various public and private contributions including:
City Bridge Trust Stepping Stones Fund
The Mayor of London’s High Street Fund
The Mayor of London’s Regeneration Fund
The London Enterprise Panel and Mayor of London’s Growing Places Fund
Camden Town Unlimited
Previous Collective spaces
Collective Temperance Hospital: 2015 - 2017
With the start of Euston Town BID, Collective also turned its gaze towards Euston, opening the largest Collective Space to date. Collective Temperance Hospital occupied five floors of the derelict Temperance Hospital and was where Collective adopted its self-sufficient model, with serviced offices at around 1/3 of market rate paying for free hotdesking and building capital for future building refurbishments.
C/159 Market: 2014 - 2015
Collective began it’s life focusing on bring vacant units on the High Street back into use, which culminated in C/159, a 3,000 sq.ft marketplace that could support up to 14 retailers at any one time and combined retail space with co-working space on the upper floors. The shop supported over 100 different pop-up occupants during its lifetime, and upon its closure some of these leased a commercial unit in Camden Market to continue operating.
Collective 37: 2009 - 2015
Collective 37 was the original and longest running Collective space, providing free hotdesking space for around 100 members. All furnishings, including the walls were mounted on wheels, allowing it to be reconfigured for working, events and courses or any combination of these. This flexibility has become standard in all Collective spaces.
